Recovering Chairs

When we moved into our house my parents gave us their old dining room table and chairs, but the seat cushions didn't really match the rest of our decor.  Thanks to a little tutorial from my aunt (and the use of her staple gun) we switched out the fabric for a pattern that matched the rest of our house.

Using a flathead screwdriver and pliers my super helpful husband pulled the staples out of the current cushions, which was probably the hardest part of the whole project.

After that, we just cut the fabric to fit the cushion, flipped it over and wrapped them like presents.
One person folded the fabric over the corners and held it very tight while the other put the staples in, focusing on extra staples in the corners.

Finally, we put the white fabric we saved from when they were professionally done and put those back on to make things look neater, although that's not really necessary unless people make a habit of peeking under your chairs.

This process was so easy we went ahead and recovered some bar stools Dan bought from a coworker that was getting rid of them.

I can't believe it's never occurred to me to do this before-it's such a simple project that makes a big impact.

Weekly Wishes

You are exactly where you need to be.
-Dove chocolate wrapper

The wisdom you can find in your chocolate is far better than the tomfoolery that you find in fortune cookies these days.

Last week I did so-so on keeping to my weekly goals.  I did unpack and repack my boxes from work and get a good start on getting settled at my new job, and I did go to spinning in the mornings before work.  However, I only posted twice and didn't get my chore lists finished.

This week I hope to:

1. Finish getting everything settled at my new desk.
2.  Exercise in the mornings Monday-Thursday before work.
3.  Post 3 times.
4.  Read every night before going to bed.  I'm halfway through Jodi Picoult's Harvesting the Heart and it's due back to the library soon.  Anybody else read this?  I'm having a hard time staying interested.

Five on Friday

 I'm linking up today to share 5 things I'm excited about this Friday!

{One}
It’s the end of my first week back and I’ve actually stuck to my goal of working out in the mornings before work!  Maybe it’s just first week jitters, but I’ve been waking up feeling much more rested and not groggy like I have in the past.   For years I’ve been reading about how working out in the morning is the best habit and will give you more energy for the day and assumed that was kind of like those weirdos that claim they love running.  Quite honestly, the first day I showed up to the gym at 5:15 I was startled (as in literally gasped) when I walked in and the gym was full of people.  Tuesday and Thursday morning I went to spinning and that’s been a great way to start the day!

{Two}
It’s almost football season!!  My parents have season tickets to Carolina games and we always go as a family to a few a year.  This year Dan and I are joining them for the ECU and Duke games.  We’re also tailgating with friends for the ECU-Virginia Tech game in a couple of weeks.  Let’s be real, tailgating is the main event, right?

{Three}
Fall shows will be starting again soon!  Since trading in our cable subscription for Netflix and Hulu in May I’ve been binge watching shows like Downton Abbey, The Mindy Project and my new obsession, Orange is the New Black, but I’m excited for our old favorites to start up again soon too.  (Maybe I have a TV problem?)

{Four}
I went through a mild Cliff bar obsession in grad school, but then burned out on them and felt like they were a little high calorie and haven’t been eating them recently.  While at the grocery store the other day I ran across their Crunch Granola bars with a calorie count more in line with Luna bars (190) and they are so delicious.  I’ve been eating one in the car on the way to work and I so look forward to it every morning.  Seriously, tastes like eating a homemade white chocolate macadamia nut cookie.

Weekly Wishes

Today is my last day of summer vacation before starting my new job and I'm determined to make this school year a great one.  For the past couple of days Dan and I have been talking about all the things we want to get accomplished or change in the coming year and yelling out it's "the year of us!" because you know, we're cool lame like that.

My wishes for this first week are:

1. Go through the boxes I packed from my cubicle at my old job and organize them, then pack them for my new job.
2.  Go to 5:30 spinning on Tuesday and Thursday.
3.  Create checklists for daily, weekly and monthly chores.
4.  Blog 3 times.

I'm excited to start this week out the right way and tackle some goals!
